My husband and I had a decrease in income due to market conditions. We contacted our mortgage company, jumped through all of the modification hoops, and in the end, they lowered the payment to an amount we are still going to struggle with. We rec’d the final docs last Saturday and have not returned them. The original amount they said they were going to adjust it to was $2036. This contract says $2349 and “may adjust periodically”. Do you know if it’s possible to nogotiate the principle amount we owe? We owe $360k and the house appraises for $188k. Financially, this does not make sense to keep paying for a house that is not worth half of it’s worth. We have high 700 credit scores and have never missed any payments. Any advise?
